ACTORS

Our short film has one actor, Meabh. She was the perfect person for our character because she is tall and slim and has long hair. We wanted our actress to be able to convey vulnerability well and not be physically intimidating or seem very strong. Through her facial expressions and body language Meabh will be able to convey this. As of right now, we are keeping the characters name Meabh because it is an ancient Irish name, however this may change.

Treatment for Origin

Background  Our short film is set in rural Northern Ireland, and the main idea of it is that a girl who lived in the 1700s that was drowned has been resurrected and has come back to where she lived in 2017. It is the opening for a film so naturally we can't give away the plot of the film but the idea that we aim to leave the viewers with was that she was drowned as a form of the death penalty for being found guilty of witchcraft.  This was not uncommon in Ireland in these times, the most famous witch trials would be the Islandmagee Witch Trial which took place in 1710-1711 in which eight women were found guilty of witchcraft. The area in which we will be filming is secluded and untouched by modern life, it is also not far from where the Islandmagee trial happened. Screenplay Treatment The film opens with a shot underwater, of a strand of hair floating across the screen. The music that we want to have will be created on Garageband and will be eerie and atmospheric....

Risk Assessment

Risk - Meabh could become very cold and sick if she spends too much time in the water due to the time of year we will be filming. (March) Fix - We need to plan our shots in detail and know exactly how long we want them to be, angles, shot types, monologue etc. If we do this we can save Meabh time in the water, and keep her from getting too cold. Risk - Any of us could slip on the rocks surrounding the water and could injury ourselves badly. Fix - To prevent this from happening, all of us will wear sensible shoes to stop us from slipping.  Risk - We could damage our equipment such as cameras and tripods. Fix - We will keep them in padded bags and rucksacks and protect them really well.  Risk - Long skirt as part of Meath's costume. This coupled with the fact it will be wet from the water will make it more difficult for her to run.  Fix - Meabh will have to hold up the skirt when she is running to stop herself from tripping and falling....

Horror Films

'An intense feeling of shock, fear or disgust' The horror genre is one that 'seeks to elicit a negative emotional reaction from viewers by playing on their fears'. For my main task for media, my group and I have decided to create a short film that falls under the genre of horror, or more specifically historical horror. In terms of research and planning, I am going to analyse 5 films and explore the codes, conventions, characters, miss en scene, shot types, music, titles, target audience and what type of company would produce the film. BLAIR WITCH PROJECT This film is a completely improvised feature film shot in a wooden location 25 miles from where it is set in Burkettsville , Maryland. It is a psychological horror. Characters Heather Donahue, Michael Williams, Josh Leonard . Three young film students who disappeared. A small group of young people disappearing is typical of horror films. Music Some of the soundtrack from the Blair Witch Project ...
