NEWCASTLE COSTUME AND MAKEUP

In terms of makeup, we wanted Meabh to look natural and realistic. The idea that we are suggesting is that she has been dead for years and so we knew that makeup was the most important aspect of costume that we could control the ideas of the viewer with.
The makeup was completely done with the Sleek Eye Devine palette, and Erin, who was in charge of costume, used brown, purple, black and grey tones to show bruising on Meabh's face. We also had Meabh's wrists and neck 'bruised' with these colours to extend the idea to the viewers that Meabh had been forcibly brought towards her death, typical of the death of a suspected witch in the 1700s.

As for the actual costume, Erin was put in charge of this as well. She took a plain white dress belonging to Anna and poured dirty water and then stamped on it in mud, making it completely dirty. She then left it outside in the rain overnight. This made the dress look worn, extremely old and really grimy and dirty. Coupled with the makeup, I think the dress completed Meabh's look perfectly.
